It’s often implied that when you choose a large vehicle that focuses on cabin space and a roomy cargo area, you’ll have to sacrifice the drive power and control you’d normally see in smaller cars. That’s why the 2023 Chevy Traverse is both an anomaly and a breath of fresh air for drivers who are tired of compromising and want it all. With all it offers at the price it offers, this three-row SUV deserves the praise it receives.

The 2023 Chevy Traverse: The Basics

Mechanics

The Traverse’s power comes primarily from its 3.6-liter six-cylinder engine that boasts 310 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque. The engine is fitted with Stop/Start technology that improves fuel economy and lessens gas emissions. The Traverse’s nine-speed auto transmission includes Driver Shift Control for more optimal fuel consumption and smoother shifting.

Chevrolet Safety Assist

Automatic Emergency Braking

This emergency system will supply supplemental braking power to help you hard brake. This program is capable of pressing the brakes on your behalf if you can’t respond in time. The Automatic Emergency Braking program helps enhance the effectiveness of some of your other Chevrolet Safety Assist programs, such as Forward Collision Alert.

Following Distance Indicator

This will display the distance you are away from the car ahead of you using seconds as a unit of measurement. If you’re following too closely to the vehicle ahead, the system can provide a tailgating alert.

Forward Collision Alert

This system is designed to alert you of potential front-end collisions with enough time for you to react and avoid them. Like the Following Distance Indicator, this system can provide tailgating alerts, as well.

Front Pedestrian Braking

This program can perform automatic maneuvers to help you either entirely avoid or reduce the severity of a collision with a pedestrian. The system uses sensors on your vehicle’s front end to watch for and alert you of pedestrians directly in front of your vehicle. It can provide pedestrian alerts and is capable of applying the brakes on its own as well as supplying additional power to your brake presses.

Lane Keep Assist

With the additional Lane Departure Warning system, Lane Keep Assist watches the lane markings on either side of your Traverse and alerts you if you’re drifting out of your lane without your blinker on. This system is able to gently steer the wheel for a brief moment to get you back to the center of your lane.

The Traverse outperforms others in the three-row SUV class thanks to its balanced drive and responsive handling despite its class-leading interior and cargo space.
